No Child Left Inside Conference ~ Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania Environmental Education Grants Program    
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) sets aside 5% of the pollution fines and penalties collected annually to stimulate environmental education in Pennsylvania. This allocation established a grants program that funds sound EE projects.

McKeever Environmental Learning Center    
Day use and overnight programs for K-12: student teacher program; conducts professional development workshops for teachers and offers public workshops and programs. McKeever also works with international students on a regular basis. Serves over 75 school districts in Pennsylvania. McKeever Center is administered by Slippery Rock University on behalf of the State System of Higher Education.

Pocono Environmental Education Center    
Education programs for use in kindergarten through high school, college and university, as well as adult and continuing education. Programs for adolescent youth at risk are also available. With a quarter of a million acres, this is the largest center of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.

Pennsylvania Parks EE Programs

Pennsylvania Center for Environmental Education (PCEE)      
EE in Teacher Preparation: The Higher Ed initiative is dedicated to the inclusion of EE in pre-service teacher preparation. Efforts focus on a three-year inclusion strategy, top-down faculty support, & funding. An EE & Pre-service Teacher Ed Task group operates to develop a strategy & recommend action for the inclusion of EE in pre-service teacher ed programs.

Internet Watershed Educational Tool (InterWET)    
"Water resource and watershed education with interactive calculators and maps. InterWET can be used as a stand-alone educational resource and as part of larger watershed educational efforts for a variety of people in many different watersheds." Uses the Spring Creek Watershed in central Pennsylvania as a case study. Developed by S.C. Parson, PhD, Pennsylvania State University.

Creek Connections    
Creek Connections has forged an effective partnership between Allegheny College and regional schools to turn waterways in western Pennsylvania into outdoor environmental laboratories. Emphasizing an investigation of local waterways, this project involves a hands-on, inquiry based, natural science education for a number of different schools. Water Quality data is posted online.
