March 31, 2001
Washington College of Law, American University

Speakers are being sought for the 6th International Wildlife Law Conference, details of which are provided below. If you are interested in speaking at the conference, please submit a one to two paragraph abstract to my attention as soon as possible. The Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy, will publish longer versions of some of the presentations from the conference, and ASIL WIG, in cooperation with Earthscape of Columbia University, will publish an online version of the conference proceedings.

Travel funds for this conference will be extremely limited and probably limited to speakers from non-OECD nations.

Sixth International Wildlife Law Conference

The Sixth International Wildlife Law Conference will take place on March 31, 2001 at the Washington College of Law, American University, in Washington, DC. The event is sponsored by the American Society of International Law's Wildlife Interest Group and co-sponsored by the Washington College of Law, American University, Kluwer Law International, and the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University. As always, the conference's themes and speakers will emphasize the interface of science, management, politics, and law in international wildlife conservation initiatives.

The themes for the conference's three panels are:

  • Panel 1: The Effectiveness of International Fisheries Conventions;
  • Panel 2: The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea: Selected Issues;
  • Panel 3: Implementation and Compliance with Sea Turtle Conventions and Agreements

For additional information about the conference, visit the ASIL Wildlife Interest Group webpage.
If you wish to be placed on our mailing list for the conference brochure and registration materials, please contact me via phone or email, or sign up on the ASIL-WIG announcement list on the website.

I hope you can join us.
